LIVE Standout Room - Pioneer
The sound
produced in the middle of three ninth-floor Pioneer rooms had the SoundStagers very
excited about the audio performance of a sub-$200 speaker. Designed by former KEF engineer
Andrew Jones, the Pioneer S-DF1K speakers ($179/pair) were driven by a VSX-27TX receiver
($1499) and PD-F17 CD player ($699). This system had truly high-end voicing and surprising
dynamics and bass -- and the subwoofer you see in the picture was not active. Budget
home-theater seekers, this may just be the speaker system for you. SoundStage!
will be begging for a pair of the speakers to review.
