Of course, this year's party has special significance because it is the first for Stereophile's new owners, Petersen Publishing -- which has recently been bought by the proverbial bigger fish, British publishing company Emap. Saturday-night CES tradition, the Stereophile party is the place to
forget about high-end audio and talk with manufacturers, dealers, and members of the press
about things other than triode tube amps and midrange transparency. For SoundStage!,
the party also represents a time to catch up with people we know well but rarely get to
see -- the other SoundStage! writers. Although we SoundStagers clear out
after the CES has ended, we all get to the Stereophile party to bend each other's
ears -- and take advantage of some good food and drink.
